For fall color tours and driving tours near Yellowstone National Park and through it, we suggest starting by exploring the Lewis and Clark Trail along the Yellowstone River in Livingston where movies "A River Runs through It" and "The Horse Whisperer" were filmed. The lodging in Livingston is ideal for day trips to nearby Yellowstone National Park. Ride the Paradise Valley Scenic Loop, a 62 mile loop that is absolutely breathtaking. The Gallatin Mountains, Beartooth Highway, and the Yellowstone River all compliment this great place to start your adventure, just north of Yellowstone National Park. This scenic wonder is home to some of the best North American big game hunt and fly fishing with its well-stocked creeks such as Depuy Spring Creek and the Yellowstone River. Your Paradise Valley cabin will have views of white capped snow peaks and vast amounts of vistas where wildlife roam.
West Yellowstone cabins under a blanket of winter snow are fascinating. There is less tourism traffic, plus the majestic bison and Park rivers both blow steam. This time of year is a photographers dream.
Yellowstone is terrific for birding. Over 300 species of birds exist within the diverse habitat of this park. Records dating back to 1872 have tracked most of these migratory birds and the change of climate and habitat. It is illegal to use bird callers and to feed the birds so when you go birding in Yellowstone, please do so with caution.
A fishing getaway in Yellowstone has never been more interesting. Over 50,000 visitors come here to fish annually for the amazing trout. Be careful to catch and release native species to help control the population in species such as cutthroat and mountain whitefish. Be sure to review rules and regulations. Licenses can be bought in Yellowstone National Park or local area businesses. Yellowstone’s opening fishing weekend is the Saturday of Memorial Day and ends the first Sunday in November. Yellowstone Lake fishing opens June 15th. Choose your Lake Yellowstone Cabin Here. July 15th the middle Yellowstone River drainage opens. Reminder, lead weights are prohibited in the Park. Yellowstone Lake require all Lake Trout that is caught to either be kept or killed as these are not native species to the Lake as they are in direct competition with native cutthroat species. Yellowstone also requires you to clean your gear before changing waters, this will control aquatic invasive species.
Bicycling in Yellowstone has never been prettier in the spring and fall months. Check out specific routes along wildlife, lakes, geysers, and rock formations. In May, cyclists enjoy a period of bicycle-only access on the East entrance to Slyvan Pass and the South entrance. The route between West Yellowstone and Madison Junction, a 28 mile round trip, is by far the most popular ride. In September, enjoy a 60 mile ride called the West Yellowstone Old Faithful Cycle Tour which is a terrific way to round out your summer cycling adventures. Registration fills up fast so be sure to preregister early for this popular event.
There is a reason John Mayer titled his 6th album Paradise Valley. This stunning area provokes harmony. We suggest creating a trip planner with the area things to do in Yellowstone National Park and Paradise Valley. A Yellowstone National Park cabin awaits your much deserved cabin time.
