Our three bedroom, two bath Spotted Bear cabin was remodelled in 2011, and like the other 6 well-spaced cabins on our homestead, we took special care to retain the vintage wood where ever possible (much of it milled out of old growth larch over 60 years ago). We added a great deck off the large equipped kitchen, plus a fireplace in the living room. We topped it off with a cherry tree and swing next to the house.
There are lots of activities here and nearby: Fishing, hiking, cycling, boating, sailing, canoeing, kayaking, river rafting (in Glacier Park), swimming, tennis, golf (9 courses to choose from), horseback riding, bird watching, photography, local art galleries and summer theater too. Or head in to Whitefish for great dining. Open both summer and winter, be sue and visit Big Mountain Ski Resort. Ride the lifts and take in some of the most spectacular scenery imaginable.
This was the last of the 1950 mill houses to be remodeled on the Abbott Valley Homestead. Spotted Bear has a wonderful warm feel, mixing old and new with attention in every detail. The meadow out front leads over to the creek, trails and other picnic areas.
Our family is fortunate to have roots here. Legendary roots. Abbott Valley is named after a trapper named Abbott who had a homestead claim in this area during the late 1890’s. Our father owned one of 17 lumber mills in the valley. Today our Abbott Valley Homestead stretches 260 acres. We continue to farm the homestead, so you might see us,or the horses and cattle roaming the creeks and meadow. You will have all the privacy you need. But, just wave us down if you have questions, we always extend our local knowledge to guests.
Hiking our homestead is great fun for the family. Follow the North Abbott Creek from bridge to bridge or just follow the paths in the fields and forests.
Explore Whitefish, MT parks which are perfect for that impromptu picnic lunch, a place for the kids to play and swing. Tennis courts, River access walking paths and observation decks too. Your visit might overlap these special events: Taste of Whitefish; Oktoberfest; or Huckleberry Arts Festival Days.
You cabin experience should also include a Glacier National Park experience. The Western entrance is just down the road a piece. With 700 miles of trails, Glacier Park is a hiker's paradise through rugged peaks, glacial-carved valleys, and around clear lakes like Lake McDonald - the largest lake in the park (10 miles long and 472 feet deep). Travel by car on the amazing Going-to-the-Sun Road, a park highlight.

Kathy Aurich Kramer Beautiful quiet place. Loved it. Should have stayed the whole week there!! Walked on the trails and saw Mule deer. I would highly recommend Abbott Valley!! Thanks Doyle.
Nancy Stobel Excellent winter getaway! Peaceful and relaxing by a cozy fire or great exercise snowshoeing through the meadow. The rustic charm of the cabins takes you back to a simpler time and place and reminds you of the joy of simple conversation. The collected stories of the early day homesteaders of the canyon area are a delight. Shake the winter blahs and spend some time in the sunshine of Abbott Valley Homestead.
