Interestingly, the Lewis and Clark Expedition (1805-1806) had to go around a 10-mile section of the Missouri River to avoid these waterfalls. Explore the River’s Edge Trail, which is the main pedestrian path in Great Falls. It follows the river and is 60 miles long. Go for a walk or ride a bike to discover the city’s splendor. Giant Springs State Park is along the trail and boasts one of the largest freshwater springs in the country! While you’re there, dip your feet into the warm, 54-degree spring water. What an experience!

There are many other areas to hike around Great Falls- You may even want to hike to visit one of the falls that inspired the city’s name. For an adrenaline rush, take a day to ski at Showdown Montana. Located within the Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest, it is one of the oldest operating ski areas in the state. You may not be able to discover all 640 acres while on your skiing adventure, but it will be fun trying!

After your day of exploration, you’ll find that Great Falls offers many restaurant choices. Visit The Celtic Cowboy for a delicious Irish meal.
